No More Vibe Magazine???

Here’s the official statement from Vibe Editor Danyel Smith:
On behalf the VIBE CONTENT staff (the best in this business), it is with great sadness, and with heads held high, that we leave the building today. We were assigning and editing a Michael Jackson tribute issue when we got the news. It’s a tragic week in overall, but as the doors of VIBE Media Group close, on the eve of the magazine’s sixteenth anniversary, it’s a sad day for music, for hip hop in particular, and for the millions of readers and users who have loved and who continue to love the VIBE brand. We thank you, we have served you with joy, pride and excellence, and we will miss you.
Well, damn! This recession ain't no joke.....

Kanye to Pose Nude????!

Ok, so last week I informed you all of Kanye's appearance in the latest issue of Vibe magazine. I thought the man was just gonna give a list of his top favorite songs, but clearly I must have forgotten who I was writing about. Mr. West has yet again opened his mouth to give us more to talk about.

“I definitely feel, like, in the next however many years, if I work out for two months, that I’ll pose naked. I [want to] break every rule and mentality of hip-hop, of black culture, of American culture,”

West insists his striptease would make big headlines, whereas such a controversial statement by certain other stars, like Bjork, would go largely unnoticed.

He explains, “If she wanted to pose naked, you’d (public and media) be like, ‘Oh, that’s Bjork.’ But if I wanted to pose naked, people would draw all type of things into it.”

Kanye, on behalf of the hip-hop generation [and the other generations, for that matter] please keep your cloths on. no one wants to see it. -15 cool points.

Ciara DOES Vibe Mag

Hmmm..... I honestly am at a loss for words [syke]. I was really mad when Ciara did that video with 50 cent, but this.... I don't know. Its always the chicks that don't have any singing talent that always push the envelope and try to be looked at as sex symbols, not that I'm mad at that. Its just that the half of me thats an amature music critic is turning his nose up while the other half of me thats just a regular dude is turning domething else up lol. Now that I think about it, I would like to retract my comments about Vibe Mag being slightly racist. CLEARLY this is why Robin thicke didn't get the cover lol.

Vibe Mag, Racist?

In a recent interview with Billboard Mag, blue-eyed soul singer Robin Thicke claimed that he couldn't get the cover of Vibe Magazine because he is white.

"When I did a recent interview with Vibe magazine I asked, “Why can’t I get the cover? This is a magazine I love. If there’s one magazine that I’d want to be on the cover of, it’s Vibe.” Their response was they don’t have white artists on the cover; that the only white artist they’ve had on the cover was Eminem. I guess if that’s what it is, it is what it is. And I respect that because I live in a house with a black woman.
I won’t use the word “racism.” I will say it’s a tough — but rewarding — fight. I look at Mary J. Blige, somebody who has had only a few pop hits and yet has changed culture, generated new sounds and inspired leagues of artists. She’s now a worldwide phenomenon. And it’s because of what she stood for; she never gave up. She kept making great music, pouring her heart out to people.
You can’t always expect people to be as color-blind or open-minded as you want. What you can do is keep giving your heart and soul, like Bob Marley did. His music became so overwhelmingly loving; it was a relentless love in a sense. Keep beating them down with love and they can’t stop you."

Hmmm..... I think I'm gonna have to call bullsh*t on the part of Vibe Magazine. Really, what would it look like if another publication refused to give an artist the cover because they were Black or Latino? It would look like racism!
