New Mixtape: Tyga - Black Thoughts

I know I am hella late this one, but I have to blog about Tyga's latest mixtape, "Black Thoughts". Once again Tyga proves that he definitely deserves a shoutout when mentioning the great new rappers on the up and up. I love the fact that this dude utilizes the concept of a mixtape to release quality work. Some tracks are new, others sample popular music of the past year. Follow the link below for the track list and download. You won't be disappointed.

5 Good Reasons Why JoJo Should Do A Mixtape

This summer I have been riding the JoJo train a lot. A while back I informed you all about the issues JoJo is having with her record label, and I mentioned how I thought she should do a mixtape. The following are five good reasons why I think a mixtape would be good for her career. Consider this my official petition.

5. A mixtape would be a good opportunity for JoJo to display her raw musical creativity / talent and express herself without the naysayers at the label.

4. The fans want to hear JoJo. Shes been out of the spotlight for some time now, and people are more so remembering her for that one Lifetime TV movie she did, and not her actual singing talent. I don't think she ever got the recognition she deserved from the start.

3. With the slumping music industry, artists MUST create a buzz for themselves these days. Sure, shes been ready to release her album for over a year, but who is to say that it will actually sell?

2. Look what a mixtape did for Drake and Lil Wayne. Drake, who had been a virtually unknown artist for years, made So Far Gone and in a few months he was a household name. Lil Wanye, who also had been making music for years, spent a year and recorded almost 2,000 songs. His next album sold over one million in a week. Get my drift?

1. The chick has talent!!! At the tender age of 18, JoJo has the potential to be one of the greats! Check the music if you think I'm lying.

If you feel how I feel, sign the Twitition! Also check her MySpace for more music, and follow her on Twitter.

Follow Friday: MeLo-X

I gave you a brief intro to this rapper / singer / DJ / producer / blogger the other day. Now, as promised, I give you more music. Last year MeLo-X delivered one of the best mixtapes I've ever heard, Mustafa's Renaissance. As you are sure to find out, this mix is far from the average mixtape you've been listening to; it actually sounds like a REAL album. In my opinion, it sounds better than a number of albums in the stores. Take a listen; be enlightened.

Download Here

ps: Follow Fridays are about to get real serious around here. I've been holding out on the goods, but you shall soon see. The world of music and art is so much better than what MTV, BET, and your local clear channel radio station would have you believe.

Follow Friday: Jade

Born and raised in Brooklyn, a preacher's kid, Jade grew up in a non-traditional Puerto Rican household. Music is something that came very naturally to Jade early on. At an early age she began to sing in places outside the confines of her bathroom, and it wasn’t long after that, she began to write her own songs and create her own soundtrack. "It is the process of telling stories," which she says, "is one of the most amazing gifts anyone can have." I would describe her sound as a weird incarnation of Nelly Furtado.

Her latest mixtape, "Its My Heart, Cookie", can be downloaded HERE.

Trey Songz "Anticipation" Mixtape

Trey Songz has yet again surprised his fans with another unexpected mixtape. This time it consists of entirely new material that just missed the cut for his new album, "Ready", scheduled to hit stores August 4th. Here is what Songz said via his blog:
Musically, I'm currently in a creative space like no other. I feel as though whenever a mic is put in front of me, I can do no wrong. At a time in the music industry where album sales are low, fans are fickle, inconsistent, or more into the various songs than they are the particular artist, I feel that I must give u a reason to love me. Embed in you a desire to love me and an appreciation for the music. I must show you that not only do I LOVE what I do but I also do it well.

So without further adue, here it is. Download here.

Trey Songz "Genesis" The Mixtape

Download
Here is what Trey had to say via his blog:
Genesis - the beginning of it all. I was a kid with big dreams. At the age of 15, I met Troy Taylor, My Producer, Mentor and founder of Songbook Ent. He lived in Jersey while I was a high school student living in Virginia. We kept contact throughout the school year & I'd come to Jersey for whatever school breaks we had AND the summers to hone what had now become my craft. While I loved music, like anybody does, making music was new to me. You will hear the Immaturity and youth in my voice, you'll hear me learning how to record. This is Trey Songz PRE - Gotta Make It. Most of the songs you will hear were recorded in a basement in Teaneck, New Jersey. I slept on a fouton, I woke up to loud music and was made to think of melodies and concepts before I washed my face or brushed my teeth. I could make 10 bucks stretch for 2 weeks because I'd rather not burden my mother. I drove a 88 Honda Accord that had 2 different color doors with no radio back and forth from VA (or Baltimore) to Jersey. This is only one chapter of my story, you'll learn more as we grow together. I want my fans to know my musical path, know the work I put in and see my growth. Know that ANYTHING is possible. If u believe in YOU like no one else could ever have a work ethic to match and u cannot be stopped. With that being said...I give you GENESIS.

+ tyga "the potential" mixtape

Well, here it is! After a little bit of confusion this morning, Tyga dropped his latest mixtape, The Potential, on his Twitter and Myspace pages. All I can say is that this is a phenomenal piece of work here! Every track is something I can listen to on repeat. i just started listening to this guy last week, and I am officially a fan of his work. I love when artist do this; they debut with some mediocre / lame piece of work, then they spend time crafting their skills and follow up with an excellent body of work. This mixtape goes so hard!

Trey Songz "You Ready" Mixtape

Download Mixtape | Provided by DatPiff.com

This is the official prequel to his upcoming album "Ready" due August 4th.
By the way, if you're really into mixtapes like I am, I HIGHLY suggest you create a free account with DatPiff. Up until recently they let their users download 5 mixtapes per day, but they dropped it down to 3 [don't understand the logic behind that].
