Tron Legacy
Posted by malik|alexander at 4:30 AMFollow Friday: MeLo-X
Posted by malik|alexander at 1:13 AMI gave you a brief intro to this rapper / singer / DJ / producer / blogger the other day. Now, as promised, I give you more music. Last year MeLo-X delivered one of the best mixtapes I've ever heard, Mustafa's Renaissance. As you are sure to find out, this mix is far from the average mixtape you've been listening to; it actually sounds like a REAL album. In my opinion, it sounds better than a number of albums in the stores. Take a listen; be enlightened.
Download Here
ps: Follow Fridays are about to get real serious around here. I've been holding out on the goods, but you shall soon see. The world of music and art is so much better than what MTV, BET, and your local clear channel radio station would have you believe.

Follow Friday: Jade
Posted by malik|alexander at 12:43 AMBorn and raised in Brooklyn, a preacher's kid, Jade grew up in a non-traditional Puerto Rican household. Music is something that came very naturally to Jade early on. At an early age she began to sing in places outside the confines of her bathroom, and it wasn’t long after that, she began to write her own songs and create her own soundtrack. "It is the process of telling stories," which she says, "is one of the most amazing gifts anyone can have." I would describe her sound as a weird incarnation of Nelly Furtado.
Her latest mixtape, "Its My Heart, Cookie", can be downloaded HERE.

Eminem Goes In On Mariah & Nick
Posted by malik|alexander at 12:09 AMIs all this beef necessary? This is one reason I stopped listening to mainstream music. But real talk, Em went in! All the way in!

Kristinia DeBarge 'Exposed'
Posted by malik|alexander at 12:52 AMI wanted to do a review of this album because there is a fair amount of hype around this young one. Not only is she a member of the legendary DeBarge family, people are also throwing around comparisons between her and Rihanna [which is understandable after listening to the lead single, Goodbye]. I wont say that this chick is without talent, but I will say that the lip-synced, heavily produced performance on So You Think You Can Dance a few weeks ago had me a bit skeptical. Is Kristinia DeBarge just as manufactured as the early Rihanna? I think so. The only thing that separates the two is that Kristinia can actually sing! As with any other 19 year old music act, I didn't expect her to have much writing credit for her album. And my suspicions were proved correct as she is listed as a co-writer only on two tracks, "Cried Me A River" and "Its Gotta Be Love", with Babyface. After about halfway through the album its clear that Kristinia is more comparable to Jordan Sparks who both worked with front man to OneRepublic, Ryan Tedder. Over all, the album is OK. Its good for kids to listen to [which explains the heavy rotation on the Disney channel], but as always, I'm more so interested in longevity. What will the Billboard charts say next week? What amazing things will this album yield? And I know I'm jumping the gun, but what will the next album sound like? How long will she keep the squeaky clean image? We shall see ladies and gents, we shall see.

Follow Friday: Machinedrum
Posted by malik|alexander at 3:59 PMMachinedrum aka Travis Stewart has worked with various unique artists, fusing different genres to create something satisfying no matter what you’re into: hip-hop, dub, breaks, glitch, house, jazz, and the list goes on. No matter what your scene, you should enjoy. Although little is known about this up and coming producer and DJ from Brooklyn, guy hear has been giving me eargasm after eargasm for the last year and a half. His work can be heard all over the mixtapes of Mickey Factz, and Theophilus London. He also goes by Syndrone and T.Stewart.
If you recognize his production style, thats because you've probably heard some of his work on Cartoon Network's Adult Swim. For more music and information, checkout his myspace page, Myspace.com/Machinedrum.

Follow Friday: Danielle Polanco a.k.a. Danielle Ninja
Posted by malik|alexander at 6:15 AM
Ladies and gents, I give you Follow Friday. Based loosely on the idea started by Twitter, each Friday I will introduce you to people in various industries whom I think will enhance your life. We start with Danielle Polanco. Unarguably most recognized for staring opposite Omarion in his 2006 hit music video "Touch", and for her supporting role in Step Up 2 the Streets, Danielle is one of the dance industry's elite dancers who, by the ripe age of 23, has built an extensive and impressive resume. Her unusual combination of hip-hop, popping, and voguing has gained her much attention in the music industry. A few of her video appearances include Beyonce's "Check On It" (2005), Janet Jackson's "So Excited" (2006), Beyonce's "Get Me Bodied" (and damn near every other video off B'day)(2007), Usher "Love In This Club" (2008), Chris Brown's "Forever" (2008), and Ne-Yo's "Miss Independent" (2008).
Click here to view an interview she did a few years ago. Danielle Polanco can now be seen on Broadway in "West Side Story".

Alice in Wonderland
Posted by malik|alexander at 7:26 PM
From Walt Disney Pictures and visionary director Tim Burton comes an epic 3D fantasy adventure Alice in Wonderland, a magical and imaginative twist on some of the most beloved stories of all time. Johnny Depp stars as the Mad Hatter and Mia Wasikowska as 19-year-old Alice, who returns to the whimsical world she first encountered as a young girl, reuniting with her childhood friends: the White Rabbit, Tweedledee and Tweedledum, the Dormouse, the Caterpillar, the Cheshire Cat, and of course, the Mad Hatter. Alice embarks on a fantastical journey to find her true destiny and end the Red Queen's reign of terror. The drug references should be hilarious lol.
